This collection contains law students' third year papers (a requirement for graduation) which were given to the Library by their faculty advisor if it was determined the paper merited retention by the School. It also contains seminar and other student papers given to the Library by faculty. These papers are cataloged individually and the records record the box and folder number of each. Cite as individual works, by author and title.

Law clubs were established to provide students an opportunity to practice preparing and arguing law cases as realistically as possible. Law clubs began to be founded at Harvard in the 19th century; one of the earliest was the Marshall Club, founded in 1825. In 1910, the Board of Student Advisers was formed, and the more formal Ames Competition in Appellate Brief Writing and Advocacy was established.
